Overview

Silver Bay Seafoods, a leading seafood processor in Alaska is currently looking for a Purchasing Expediter to work in our Seattle.  The candidate would mainly be responsible for confirming accurate and timely delivery of ordered goods and expediting emergency requests. Occasional travel to Alaska required.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  • Routinely tracks vendor shipments;
  • Confirms purchase order placement, status, and delivery specifications;
  • Monitors shipment progress and confirms accurate and timely delivery of goods;
  • Monitors reports and identifies outstanding purchase orders; expedites outstanding purchase orders and emergency purchase requests;
  • Track and monitor all barge related shipments to ensure timely delivery;
  • Do vendor setups and address payment issues as needed;
  • Visit consolidators as needed to assist in identifying deliveries which are missing documentation;
  • Performs administrative / clerical duties required by department;
  • Answers calls from employees, management, and vendors to respond to purchasing inquiries;
  • Other duties as required;

Qualifications

Competencies:

  • Proficiency in the use of computer business applications, with working knowledge of computerized purchasing systems.
  • Ability to communicate clearly (verbally and written) with vendors, employees and management
  • Ability to meet deadlines, maintain attention to detail and accuracy, while working in a team or group environment.
  • Knowledge of standards shipping methods and modes with previous Alaskan shipping experience preferred

 

 

Work Environment:

This job operates in a professional office environment. Travel to remote Alaskan locations may be required infrequently.  While in Alaska work may be conducted at outside receiving locations or in the plant manufacturing environment.

 

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

 

 

Mental Activities:

The employee is frequently required to use interpersonal and teamwork skills. The employee needs to be able to discern details on shipping documents and reconcile appropriate calculations. The employee needs to regularly demonstrate attention to detail. The employee is occasionally required to use creativity, independent judgment, discretion, and problem analysis.
