Overview

The incumbent will assess plant wide maintenance needs and recommend changes, plan and schedule preventative maintenance as well as manage and instruct department heads and employees in multiple departments in maintenance procedures and techniques. This position entails managing personnel in maintaining multiple systems of NH3 (anhydrous ammonia), R22(HCFC), R404A(HFC), R507(HFC), R134A(HFC) and other refrigerants as encountered in our facility and on fishing vessels.  

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Plant & Production Manager to maintain safe and efficient production speeds and processes.
  • Manage engineering and maintenance department heads and employees to facilitate efficient production processes and minimize downtime.
  • Lead engineering and maintenance personnel in troubleshooting and repairing equipment and machinery in multiple departments during a crises, emergency and/or downtime.
  • Lead engineering and maintenance personnel during day to day production processes while in production and during the off-season.
  • Coordinate the making of changes and modifications to facilities equipment either on the fly as needed during production or during downtime.
  • Identify dangers and help prevent accidents, explain and enforce company policy and general safety practices.
  • Coordinate and oversee all engineering and maintenance departments during production, including assigning personnel to areas and shifts and scheduling maintenance and repairs.

Qualifications

 

The incumbent will be highly experienced in multiple Engineering skills, including general knowledge of Millwright, Hydraulic, Pneumatic, Electrical, Electrical Control, PLC, IT, Plumbing, Refrigeration, Diesel Engines, Rolling Stock, Inventory, Building Maintenance, General Construction, Painting, Fabricating and Welding Processes. A working knowledge of industrial machine and facilities maintenance and repair is necessary. Skills and extensive knowledge and experience in refrigeration theory, operation and maintenance, troubleshooting and repair on both low temp and RSW systems are also a requirement.  Project research, project planning, project design, project implementation and project parts ordering

  • PSM and RPM compliance experience
  • Extensive knowledge and familiarity with components including reciprocating and screw      compressors, pumps, motors, valves, evaporators and heat exchangers.
  • Able to read and understand P&ID Diagrams and follow flow diagrams.
  • Familiar with electronic controls and sensing techniques common to  production and refrigeration
  • Extensive knowledge of electrical systems, safety, national electrical code, and lockout/tag out.
  • Proficient at electrical blueprint reading and electrical circuit diagrams.
  • Proficient at electrical controls troubleshooting and repair
  • Organized and efficient work habits
  • Safe work practices, particularly with regard to NH3 (anhydrous ammonia).

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

 

At different points in the year the Chief Engineer will work odd hours; including 12 to 16 hours shifts 7 days a week, depending on production and maintenance needs. Strenuous mental as well as physical demands are required of this position.  It is important that this individual can perform duties at varying times of the day.

General Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years related documentable experience operating and maintaining a production facility
  • Possess the confidence and ability to make decisions that will affect overall production and throughput of the plant.
