  • Overview

    Silver Bay Seafoods is currently looking for a Dock Supervisor to work at our Craig, AK location. This is a seasonal position. While working, the Dock Supervisor will be expected to work up to 16 hours a day, 7 days for up to 3 months at a time.

     

    Provide support service to fishing vessels as off-load at the Silver Bay Seafoods dock. Coordinate with Fleet, Plant and Production Managers, as well as fishing vessels to organize and schedule efficient offloads. The incumbent ensures crew follows GMP and safety policies and ensures the smooth efficient operation of the department. The dock supervisor sets an example for the department staff in work ethic, safety protocol, and attitude. Problems are immediately reported to the Production Manager.

    Responsibilities

     

    • Coordinate with the Fleet Manager, Plant Manager, and Production Manager to organize and schedule efficient offloads
    • Organized, efficient tracking system to monitor lots and communicate with production staff
    • Supervise all dock tasks, including offloads, servicing ice, etc.
    • Maintain inventory record of all off-loaded tender equipment and dock related equipment including condition and location.
    • Advise chief engineer of any broken dock equipment and tender equipment in need of repair.
    • Stay in constant communication with Fishermen and Tank Leads to ensure effective/constant flow of fish into the plant.
    • Provide ice as needed to fishing vessels
    • Keep dock clean and orderly

    Qualifications

    • Working knowledge of general safety, including crane, dock and forklift safety
    • General knowledge of hand tools
    • Basic marine and vessel knowledge
    • Understand the proper use of slings; lifting and lowering heavy, large, awkward loads to and from lower points.

    Working conditions and Physical Requirements

     

    As the Dock Foreman, this position can require long shifts 12-18(+) hours a day, 6-7 days a week in cold, wet and humid conditions. A shift is often based around the vessel off-load schedule and production flow. There are many dangers working on the dock, so proactivity in safety procedures is essential.

    Must be able to lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs.) and carry materials from one point to another.

    Must be able to stand, bend, twist and constantly be on the move..
