    Silver Bay Seafoods is opening a new state of the art processing facility in False Pass, AK in 2019. Our False Pass location will process salmon as well as white fish and will begin operations during the 2019 salmon season. 

    We are currently looking for an Assistant Production Manager that will work to develop the facility and assist in making it the shining star of Silver Bay Seafoods. 

     

    The Assistant Production Manager is responsible overseeing all aspects of production reporting directly to the Production Manager. Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to planning and forecasting for production, training and coaching of key staff on company standards, effective communication with operation departments to ensure that location is on target for production goals. The incumbent helps to ensure the crew follows GMP and safety policies and ensures the smooth efficient operation of each department and setting an example for the processing staff in work ethic, safety protocol, and attitude.  

    Responsibilities

    • Timely and regular attendance.
    • Supervision of a production staff ranging from 300-450 employees with focus on training of key staff personnel. Keeps production employees informed of the company rules and policies and production and quality expectations.
    • Regular and effective communication with all departments to maintain and efficient flow of production. Providing training and support to all supervisory staff as well as the Production Manager.
    • Assist in monitoring attendance schedule of staff using attendance sheets provided by Production Manager. Constant communication with management on staffing concerns or attendance issues. Ensures the general conformance with employment policies, progressive discipline, the issuance of warnings, and the administration of other disciplinary measures when necessary.
    • Takes a personal interest in all reports of injury occurring in the production areas, initiates investigation when appropriate and addresses all unsafe conditions immediately.
    • Assists in training key staff and production workers of proper ergonomics in addition to their assigned tasks and specific techniques. Provides guidance and trains staff for job stations when necessary.
    • Sets an example for the department staff in work ethic, safety protocol and attitude.
    • Assists in managing all inventory levels to ensure production line has resources needed to accomplish production goals.
    • Take corrective action to address mechanic issues or safety hazards with Production Manager and Chief Engineer.
    • Will participate and train with First Responder HazMat team.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    Education:

     

    High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred but not required. 3 years’ minimum experience in a seafood production environment of increasingly responsible management experience. Relevant workplace experience may be a substitute for above requirements.

     

    Training/Skills:

     

    Employee must possess an in-depth knowledge of salmon and fish processing from fresh to finished product. The incumbent takes preventative measures to avoid production set-backs and has the capability to delegate responsibility and supervise staff.

     

    Essential computer skills include basic understanding of email, Microsoft Office and Excel. General knowledge or ability to learn to use radio for regular communication with departments within facility. Extremely close attention to detail and organizational skills are a must.

     

    The Assistant Production Manager must have a developed understanding and respect of common quality and sanitation practices. The employee works diligently to enforce sanitation practices with the Quality Assurance department resulting in the production of a safe product.

Establishes and maintains effective and positive relationship with internal and external customers. Acts with the customers in mind, and values the importance of providing a high-quality product. Reads, speaks, writes, and understands English for effective communication. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and large group situations to production staff and management of the facility. Ability to perform basic mathematical functions. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.

     

    The Assistant Production Manager must familiarize oneself with all safety procedures and evacuations relative to their designated facility. The employee can respond quickly and calmly in the event of an emergency. In addition, the incumbent is responsible for identifying and reporting all safety or mechanical concerns related to the production to the Chief Engineer through means designated by the Production Manager. Has knowledge of MSDS and OSHA regulations and implements safe work practice within production.

     

    The employee is frequently required to set an example by consistently modeling high standards of honesty and integrity.     Physical Demands:

     

    Employee must be 18 years or older and be authorized to legally work in the United States.

     

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

     

    Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

     

    Mental Activities:

     

    The employee needs the ability to multitask in a high demand environment. Focus and concentration on customer and employee relations, safety, as well as sanitation are critical. The employee needs to regularly demonstrate attention to detail when supervising the production staff. Ability to adapt to a variety of scenarios which may arise throughout the processing season is essential.

     

    The employee must also have a rudimentary understanding of math: addition, subtraction and basic multiplication. In addition, the incumbent must possess a keen sense of the importance of punctuality for a variety of designated tasks. The employee is required to use creativity, problem solving, independent judgment and discretion.

     

    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

     

    The Assistant Production Manager position requires driven machinery certifications such as a forklift, expeditor truck, or flatbed truck which in turn requires a valid driver’s license.

     

    The incumbent would ideally possess or be actively pursuing the below certifications upon employment:

     

    • HACCP Certification
    • OSHA 10 Hour
    • OSHA 24 Hour Hazmat Technician training

     

    Work Environment

     

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.  The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and extreme cold.  The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock and vibration.  The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
