    Silver Bay Seafoods is opening a new state of the art processing facility in False Pass, AK in 2019. Our False Pass location will process salmon as well as white fish and will begin operations during the 2019 salmon season. We are currently looking for an experienced and dynamic Fleet Manager that will work to develop the facility and assist in making it the shining star of Silver Bay Seafoods.

     

    The Fleet Manager works closely with the Assistant Fleet Manager and Fleet Operations to help coordinate tender movement and placement to best facilitate the assigned area’s fleet. Constant and effective communication with corporate management, fishermen and production staff is necessary to optimize buying capacity as well as ensure efficiency in offloading to receiving docks. Silver Bay Seafoods is committed to delivering an exceptional experience for our fisherman owners and as Fleet Manager you are expected to ensure that the fleet department delivers on that commitment.

    Responsibilities

    • Timely and regular attendance. During active production, this position is expected to work seven days per week in excess of 12 hours per day and on call 24-hours per day. You are expected to work as many hours as the responsibilities of the position dictate.
    • Work closely with fleet department staff to professionally coordinate tender movements to effect efficient buying of fish and to ensure that SBS fisherman can maximize their fishing opportunity.
    • Provide direction to and/or support of Assistant Fleet Manager.
    • Verify tender start and stop dates.
    • Ensures all vessels are operated and maintained with exceptional standards to ensure a safe seafood product. Facilitate in ordering parts and scheduling repairs for fleet tenders when necessary.
    • Compile fleet contact list and information packets.
    • Actively monitor office phones and Tracphones
    • Submit daily catch reports to ADF&G staff
    • Compile area-specific harvest averages for fleet disbursement
    • Supervise Fleet Expeditor and facilitate delivery of mail and packages from processing facility to fishing vessels.
    • Coordinate and manage 15-30 tenders depending on run strength; broadcast group messages to fleet as needed.
    • Communicate daily with PWSAC & VFDA regarding cost recovery information, female percentages, and the number of fish at the hatcheries.
    • Assist fleet accounting with fish ticket details and other financial communications.
    • Issue Purchase Orders and work with fleet accounting on PO tracking.
    • Off-season continuation of communication with fishermen and tender operators. Must be available for weekly teleconferencing and periodic in-person visits to Seattle corporate office. In addition, you may be called upon to assist with other projects related to SBS fleet operations.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    Education:

     

    High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred but not required.

     

    Employee must have a minimum of 3-5 years in the seafood industry with experience in processing, fleet and operations practices.

     

    Training/Skills:

     

    Essential computer skills include basic understanding of email, Microsoft Office and Excel. Knowledge of Marine Exchange of Alaska preferred but not required. General knowledge of how to use a VHF radio for communication with fleet. Extremely close attention to detail and organizational skills will play a huge role for managing data that the incumbent will be responsible for creating and maintaining.

     

    Ability to generate, read and comprehend basic instructions.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and group situations to crew members, and other employees of Silver Bay Seafoods. Ability to perform basic mathematical functions using units of American currency, weight measurement, volume, and distance.

     

    The Fleet Manager is frequently required to set an example by consistently modeling high standards of honesty and integrity.     Physical Demands:

     

    The Fleet Manager must be 18 years or older and be authorized to legally work in the United States.

     

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

     

    Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

     

    Mental Activities:

     

    The Fleet Manager needs the ability to multitask in a high demand environment. Focus and concentration on numbers, reports and associated details are critical. The employee needs to be able to discern details on projects, spreadsheets, etc. The employee needs to regularly demonstrate attention to detail and the ability to demonstrate understanding of reports as well as the ability to draw appropriate conclusion from the data. The employee is required to use creativity, problem solving, independent judgment and discretion.

     

    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

     

    The Fleet Manager position requires driven machinery certifications such as an expeditor or flatbed truck which in turn requires a valid driver’s license.

     

    Work Environment:

     

    The Fleet Manager will spend long hours sitting and using office equipment and computers. The incumbent is located in a busy office area and is faced with constant interruptions, meeting with different kinds of people on a regular basis. The Fleet Manager may be required to make trips to and from town driving a company vehicle.
